There was no yelling or arguing, but Chen Huangliang could sense his father s disappointment and anger via the momentary pause on the other end of the phone.
The 36-year-old had just admitted that he had quit his well-paid job in the power-generation industry and been a stay-at-home dad for more than a year.
Like many older people in China, Chen s father believes that a man should have a job and make good money to support his family, rather than spending his days with children.
We caught up with Boll again this week to see how things were going.
The family decided to stay long-term and is now even further committed to the Northwoods.
“My husband jokes, he was so happy when we got Wisconsin license plates on our cars,” Boll said. “We’re not going to get dirty looks from an Illinois plate any more.”
The family had never experienced a full northern Wisconsin winter. Actually, though, the past winter solidified its decision to plant roots deeper here.
“We did a lot of great, long hikes in the snow. We got into ice fishing. We bought an ice fishing shack this year, an auger, a bunch of tip-ups, all kinds of stuff. We really got into things we like doing a lot, and we actually love the winter,” Boll said.
Working in Ice-Cream Shop Where Ice-Cream Flavors Have Alcohol in Them SalamI work at an ice-cream shop where two ice cream flavours have alcohol in them I was wondering if the money I get from this shop is halal or haram considering these items have alcohol in them All perfect praise be to Allah The Lord of the Worlds I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam is His slave and Messenger First of all we say that not all that is called alcohol according to alchemists is intoxicating..

Climate activists shattered 19 windows at HSBC s (HSBA.L) headquarters in London s Canary Wharf on Thursday as part of a protest against the financing of what the group says is devastating climate change that threatens the planet.
The female activists from the Extinction Rebellion group used hammers to break the windows and pasted stickers on them before sitting down to wait for the police to arrest them, a Reuters reporter at the scene said.

Two unions declared a dispute with South Africa s Transnet on Thursday after wage talks broke down, and warned of possible strike action if the state-owned freight logistics firm failed to present a better offer.
The United National Transport Union (UNTU) and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) baulked at Transnet s offer of a 3% wage hike - a figure they described in a joint statement as so bad that organised labour canât even present it to their constituents to obtain a revised mandate.
Transnet, which operates major ports and a huge railway network that transports minerals and other commodities for export, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
